Many people worship at home through
music more than they realize. For
one family it wasn’t until the children where gone and out of the house that
they realized that they had established musical worship as a regular part of
life for their children. There was nothing spectacular to note in
the family. It functioned the same way
that most families do. They ate,
played, read, and sang horribly together.
But, there were times throughout the day that the father sat down to
play his guitar. And, unbeknown to
him, family musical worship would begin.
He played the songs that he had learned
as a child and new ones that he wished to learn. Much of this music was religious in nature
and it echoed off of the hardwood floors and reverberated down the
halls. Within a few moments, one of
the children or the spouse would enter into the room and sing along with the
music. Within half an hour, the family
was singing or humming together; figuring out harmonies and remembering songs
of the past. They never realized it,
but the family worshipped together for years every single day. The practice had become so much a part
of their lives that the grown children still worship in their own homes
playing the musical instruments of their choice (guitar, piano, flute,
etc.) The grown children still do not
realize the significance of what they are doing. It is simple to start such a worship
practice. Just sit down and begin to
play and hum the songs that are most meaningful to you on the instrument of your
choice (voice, piano, guitar, etc.)
The rest will follow. The greatest part of this type of
worship is that it is natural and uncontrived. The best type of family musical worship is
the type where most of the family doesn’t realize the significance of what
they are doing. |
